Weekend Writing Warriors

Hi everyone!  I’ve managed to move that rock that I’ve been hiding under.  🙂  Glad to be back on Weekend Writing Warriors for the first week in a very long time.  This is a new piece I’m writing, which is based on a true story.   The names of the characters have been changed.  I hope that you enjoy it!

************************************************************************************

It started when my friend asked me to come with her to meet a guy that she had just met.  Sarai had known David for about a week and didn’t want to go to his house alone.  I told her that I was tired, but she really wanted to see him.  In the short time she’d known him he had already won her heart.

It was Friday the 13th and it had already been a long and very disappointing night.  We had just returned home from a club with some of our other friends and had literally danced for the past four hours.  To make matters worse I had met up with a guy that I had been chatting online with for the last two months for the first time and it definitely hadn’t gone as expected.  When I reluctantly agreed to go, Sarai literally jumped for joy.  Her reaction was priceless and it gave me the energy that I needed to make it through the next few hours of the night.

August 2017

Hey everyone!  It’s been quite a while since I’ve written anything on my blog as you can see.  There’s a lot that’s changed for me and I’m attempting to get my “writing” in order.   Back in 2016 when I last posted my mother-in-law was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer and given 6 months to live.  Of that 6 months she only lived a month and a half before her body gave in to the disease.  It hurts me every day that she’s gone, because she was like a mother to me.  Today is the 10 month anniversary of her death and the day that I am finally picking up the computer to begin writing again.    I feel like I’m pushing myself to push each key, but eventually it will be smooth sailing again.  Wish me luck!

Here’s a link to a slideshow that I put together to remember her just after her death, if you’d like to share her memory with me.  Wishing all of you good health!

Weekend Writing Warriors #8Sunday

Hi friends!  Welcome back.   I’ve been away from our group for a bit, because I’ve been having a stressful last couple months…

Anyhow, now it’s time for WEEKEND WRITING WARRIORS!

Wondering who we are?  We are a fabulous group of individuals that posts 8-10 sentences on their blogs from a published or unpublished book. Then we “hop” around and leave comments on each others pages.   I’m going to take a break from Esperanza for a while and show you some of what I’ve been working on.  Let me know what you think and enjoy!

***********************************************************************

After the tiny house boom, a time when millions of Americans downgraded their residential units to houses 120 feet or less a new concept of living was brought forth-Bridge homes.  My father was not a believer, but they did seem to keep their residents safe from the fires that were plaguing our nation.

My great grandmother Penelope had been raised during America’s Fool Age.  A time that American’s believed famous people such as television stars and sport players should be paid outrageous amounts of money for their stardom.  When America finally came to their senses, they began to shun the rich and famous and eventually the rich began to make enormous contributions to the school system and medical resources.  It wasn’t long before hospitals began to stop charging citizens for their services because they were so adequately funded and not long after that the cost of living in general began to drop.

Living modestly became more than a trend, it was the new way of life and when my grandfather Tom inherited his wealth from her, he gave ninety-five percent of it away to numerous charities without hesitation.  Later, he had a brilliant idea with what to do with the rest and established the first tiny home community in California.  Other children of movie stars took a liking to the idea and did the same, soon after creating an entire city full of tiny homes and naming the city after my Grandmother, who ironically opposed the rights of the poor and middle class throughout her life.

Weekend Writing Warriors #8Sunday

Hi friends!  Welcome back.   I’m writing my piece early this week.  No reason in particular, just attempting to get out of this Snail mindset.  Ugh!  (Maybe it’s the weather.)

Anyhow, now it’s time for WEEKEND WRITING WARRIORS!

His hand felt warm against my thigh.  I stared at it without saying anything, feeling as though it was slowly burning into my skin like an iron.  My body felt as if it had completely froze, my heart as if it had stopped mid-beat.  My mouth dropped open against my control but no words came out.

“Esperanza, I don’t know how we can make this right.”  Tylen finally said quietly, breaking the silence.

I nodded without looking up, knowing how deeply I had hurt him.  I didn’t know how he would ever be able to look at Adriana or me the same again.

“I don’t want to get a divorce.”  Tylen said and stood up to walk out of the room.

Weekend Writing Warriors #8Sunday

Hi friends,  welcome back.   I’m writing from the road today, so we’ll see how this goes.   My fingers are larger then the tiny letter buttons, so it’s rather rough.

Anyhow, now it’s time for WEEKEND WRITING WARRIORS!

Wondering who we are?  We are a fabulous group of individuals that posts 8-10 sentences on their blogs from a published or unpublished book. Then we “hop” around and leave comments on each others pages.   Enjoy!

I heard the door slam,  but I didn’t move.  How could I talk to him,  when I couldn’t even look at him?  I felt embarrassed, devastated and unworthy of his presence.  I lay curled up in a ball under my electric blanket,  blasting my favorite Latino artist Hector Lavoes most depressing songs,  hoping it would drown out any other sad sounds that came from within the walls around me.

I heard footsteps  approaching  our room inspite of the loud instruments from the band.  The door opened and our eyes met and that’s when I knew it was the end of my life as I knew it.  Tylen walked over and sat down on the bed beside me.  He didn’t say a word for a long while and finally  when I felt like I couldn’t take it any longer he put his hand on my leg.   That action alone was more powerful then anything that I could imagine any word he could say.

#8SUNDAY Weekend Writing Warriors and “Happy National Public Safety Telecommunicator’s week.” #RT

Hey friends, welcome back.  Lots of fun stuff going on this week.  In case you weren’t aware this week will be National Public Safety Telecommunicator’s week.  I’d like to take a moment to thank all of the Telecommunicator’s everywhere for their hard work!  (I’m a Public Safety Telecommunicator also, so I can tell you first hand-our jobs can be very difficult at times but also extremely interesting and at times entertaining, so “Go us.”

Anyhow, now it’s time for WEEKEND WRITING WARRIORS!

“Tylen, talk to me!” I screamed after him as he crossed the parking lot.

When Tylen didn’t turn around, I took off my shoe and threw it as hard as I could, watching in disgust as it fell down just behind him.  I groaned as I looked down at the car keys that he’d placed in my hand and I climbed into our pickup truck and drove quickly in order to catch up with him, beeping the horn like a mad woman all the while.

Tylen refused to turn back and look at me.  He continued to walk as if nothing was wrong.  Neighbors turned on their lights as we approached our house and nearly a block away, Tylen suddenly stopped, standing completely still without turning back to me and I flung the car into park and jumped out, running after him.

“Will you please stop acting like an insane woman!”  Tylen screamed, turning slightly as he heard my bare feet pound the pavement.  “I don’t want the kids to see us arguing.”

Before I could respond, a light showed on us and a I heard a voice as it went over the loudspeaker of an officers car.

#8SUNDAY Weekend Writing Warriors

Quince146

Hi friends, it’s one of those horrible days!  I have been locked out of my computer for a while, somehow decided to restore the computer, it mentioned what I would lose and Word or Word files were not on that list and now they’re gone.  I was pretty much done with Esperanza, minus maybe 5000 words and now it’s gone.  😦  I thought I had sent the files to my email as well and they’re also gone!  😦  So sad.  Plus I had tons and tones of really good stuff saved on other projects.  Totally freaking out.  Working like crazy to get my Word to download again now…

Anyhow, now it’s time for WEEKEND WRITING WARRIORS!

Wondering who we are?  We are a fabulous group of individuals that posts 8-10 sentences on their blogs from a published or unpublished book. Then we “hop” around and leave comments on each other’s snippets.  We welcome EVERYONE’s comments.~

I’m beginning to work on Esperanza again, let me know what you think.  ❤  (Sharing another picture from Christina’s Quince above.)

Heather, was her name and apparently she was on her third marriage.  I didn’t like the way she looked at Tylen or the way she laughed at all of his jokes, even when he wasn’t making them.  I tried not to show my disgust as I stirred my second Mojito, but I wasn’t very good at masking my emotions.  I excused myself to use the ladies room to compose myself and when I returned, they had returned to the dance floor and were dancing a very sexy version of a popular salsa song, that I had taught him to dance to.  The moment our eyes met, I moved my head in a way to call him over to me, in spite of everyone around us who were intently watching their dance moves.

“What’s wrong?”  Tylen immediately came over to me and asked.

“I’m ready to leave.”  I replied.

“Why?”  Tylen asked before looking down and grabbing his coat after noticing my intense expression.

Getting Back in the Swing of Things w/the #8Sunday Weekend Writing Warriors

Hi friends, I’m back.  My daughter’s quinceanera is over and I am living stress free for a while and enjoying it!  I missed you all and I can’t wait to get back in the swing of things.

Anyhow, now it’s time for WEEKEND WRITING WARRIORS!

I walked into Tylen’s high school reunion with him hand and hand, but I was positive that everyone would become aware of the tension between us.  We stopped by the bar and he bought us both drinks, but before he could set his down on the table, one of his best friend’s wife’s grabbed his hand and dragged him out to the dance floor.  As he pulled away from me, he asked if it was okay and handed me his drink without waiting for a response, leaving me helplessly nodding my head and shrugging my shoulders as if I was fine with it.  I set both of our drinks down on the table and took off my jacket, carefully positioning it on the tall bar stool and then climbing up to take a seat.

Before long, one of Tylen’s friends Terry came over to keep me company and tried his best to entertain me, however in spite of his kindness I couldn’t help but feel awkward.  I didn’t know a soul at the reunion besides Terry and after Tylen had danced five dances with his friends wife, I couldn’t help but feel that enough was enough.  Perhaps this was my punishment for not being honest with Tylen, maybe after a few drinks I’d have the courage to reveal the truth to him.  I zoned out from my conversation with Terry as I began to imagine how Tylen would react the moment I told him that Adriana was actually my daughter.
